DIY Coffee Body Scrub

Ever wanted to make your own body scrub but wondered how?

Here’s an easy method to making a body scrub. It can be stored in a jar and used for a couple of months, depending on the quantity you make. I think most of you may have these ingredients in your kitchen cabinets but if you don’t that’s okay. They aren’t very expensive and making the scrub works out a lot cheaper than buying the commercially made ones that are packed with chemicals.

Now, let’s get down to making our very own organic body scrub.

In a mixing bowl, add:

200gms of brown sugar (you can use white sugar too, but I prefer the texture of brown sugar
2tbsp of ground coffee powder
2tbsp of honey
4tbsp of olive oil or extra virgin coconut oil
1tbsp of vitamin E oil (it acts as a preservative)

Combine these ingredients together with a spoon and form a thick mixture (scrub-like consistency). Once done, your scrub is ready to be bottled. Spoon it into an airtight glass or plastic container and store it for whenever you feel the need to use it.

When in the shower and you want to use the scrub, wet your body, take a clump of the scrub and massage it all over your body – pay more attention to your elbows, knees and cellulite spots. Once the product is massaged into your skin and you feel the sugar granules disappear, you are ready to rinse it off.

Isn’t this a simple recipe for a homemade body scrub? Believe me, you won’t regret making a jar of this wonderful scrub for yourself. Here are a few reasons why your skin will love this scrub:
◾Coffee has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and it is known to also reduce cellulite.
◾Olive oil, honey and coconut oil are great moisturizers that will keep your skin supple.
◾Honey also has natural antioxidant properties which help protect the skin from ultraviolet rays.
◾Brown sugar is a great moisturizer and unlike salt, it does not dry your skin out.
◾Vitamin E is an antioxidant and it protects your skin’s cell structure. It is absorbed by the epidermis layer of the skin and helps the skin heal, if damaged. It also helps you skin retain its natural moisture.

So, these are some reasons why I include these ingredients into my skincare routine. If you give it a try let me know what you think. If you have a DIY scrub that works wonders for you, please let me know as I would love to try it.
