Quick Makeover on my Sister

31 May

My sister recently visited me. She barely wears makeup and her go to product is usually an eyeliner. So, when she gives me a visit, I always get her to agree to let me try some makeup on her. Thank you Lyn for being my canvas even when you don’t want to be ūüôā

So this is my sister before applying any makeup. I think she is just as pretty without it.

And here are some pics taken of her in natural and artificial light, with some makeup.

How I achieved the look

I kept the makeup look quite natural.

I started by prepping her face with some primer and applying foundation . I skipped the concealor as I did not have her shade. I then applied some bronzer to contour her features. I used the bronzer on her cheekbones and brushed a little on the bridge of her nose. I used a matte bronzer to add more definition below her cheekbones and at the sides ofher nose.. I also contoured her jawline a notch, and applied a bronze shade of eyeshadow on her lids.

I added some definition to her eyes with a matte brown shadow and completed the eyes with tight lined black liner and a few coats of mascara. For her lips, I used a pretty purple lipstick and topped it with pink lip gloss. I finished off the entire look with a light application of finishing powder.

And, there you have my pretty sibling, happy (for the first time I think) with the look I created!

The products I used

Benefit’s ‘That Gal’ primer

Gosh’s cream foundation

The Body Shop’s bronzing pearls

MAC blush in Trace Gold

MAC blush in Gana Frost

The Balm’s Bahama Mama bronzer

Coastal Scents’ warm palette

Revlon eye liner

Maybelline Collosal and L;Oreal Voluminious mascaras

MAC lipstick in Up the Amp

Nyx lipgloss in Beige

MAC powder foundaton

I hope you like what I created. I want to post a few more looks over the next week so stay tuned and let me know what you think of this look and the ones to come.

The Versatile Blogger Award

30 May

Hello everyone. I was recently nominated by Cassie at Young & Polished for the Versatile Blogger Award. Thank you Cassie! If you are a makeup addict like me, you will love her blog. She talks about everything beauty, fashion and health related. I love her nail art and review posts.

Like Cassie, I started my blog a little over a month ago and I am so thankful to the followers and wonderful people I have gotten to know through my blog. It’s lovely to have people with similar interests appreciate my write-ups and I love reading as many posts as I can, (regularly) that each of you post. As a blogger, I realize the time, passion, and effort that goes into blogging and creating the wonderful posts I see. So, I always make it a point to visit your pages and see what you have to share.

Now, moving on to the rules of this award. Here is what you have to do, if you are nominated:

  • Nominate 10 fellow bloggers relatively new to blogging
  • Let the nominated bloggers know that they have been nominated for this award
  • Share 7 random facts about yourself
  • Thank the blogger who has nominated you
  • Add the Versatile Award picture to your post

I’ll start with the seven random facts about me. This is a tough one as I just treacherously came up with some for my One Lovely Blog award I received recently ūüėÄ Anyway, here I go:

  1. I love going to the movies. I try to catch a movie every week. The last movie I watched was Fast & Furious 6. I plan on catching The Great Gatsby and The Hangover 3 this weekend. Some of my favorite actors include Hugh Jackman, Gerard Butler, John Cusak, Robert Downey Jr, Jeff Bridges, Liev Schreiber (I just realized my list could go on) among the beauties, I like Charlize Theron.
  2. My recent favorite flick is The Intouchables and my all time favorite is Say Anything
  3. I am an avid reader of fiction, literature and psychology. I am currently trying to finish a book by Byron Katie called Loving What Is.
  4. I love to write. So, I write to friends, pen my feelings down, and recently created my blog to keep this passion alive.
  5. I love a good argument with people filled with positive energy. It invigorates my senses and brings out my creativity.
  6. I work in a multi international corporate and manage a team of culture and communication specialists. Being able to work with people with diverse perspectives and personalities from different cultures has been the lovliest experience in my career. I learn everyday, and that allows the Gemini in me to stay invigorated and excited always.
  7. I love to pamper myself once in a while. This is because I think ‘me’ deserves some TLC from myself to stay positive, bright and optimistic. I do something really silly every year on my birthday – I buy myself presents! Presents could range from makeup, clothes and shoes to a holiday and some destress therapy.

So, these are a few facts I loved sharing and I hope it gives you a chance to know me better ūüôā

Now, onto the 10 blogs I want to nominate. If you haven’t visited them already, you should. They have some great tips for fashion, beauty, health and more.

Blogger in focus: Tanya from Fashion.Style.Passion

29 May

Tanya is a beautiful fashion blogger and she hosts FASHION.STYLE.PASSION.

About Tanya

She is a 20 year old fashionista from Barbados. She is currently at university, majoring in International Business. She would love to be a fashion stylist in the future and waits to see how that works out. She says, ‚ÄúI am in love with fashion [obviously!] and dance.‚ÄĚ She lives with her mother and Tanya wants to publicly thank her for all the support she’s given her in this journey.

Tanya‚Äôs passion to blog started when she bought an iPad in 2012 and created an Instagram account. She saw this as her way to get her opinion out there in the world, and it was going well. But then, the time came, to start something new. This was when she decided to start a blog. She says, ‚ÄúI had a chance to talk my fingers off about fashion, this was my chance!‚Ä̬† ‚ÄúThinking back, I was always a bit obsessed with clothes and dressing up when I was a little girl.‚ÄĚ She remembers being punished for wasting her granny’s nail polish – she was too young to apply it correctly [LOL].

What Tanya blogs about

Fashion and Beauty! The blog features haul posts, style inspiration, fashion show coverage and motivational quotes.

Tanya’s aim, through her blog, is to give inspiration in life and in fashion using inspirational quotes and outfit ideas, personally created by her, for her followers.

What makes her blog unique is:

  • She brings a Caribbean [Barbadian] perspective on global fashion.
  • She also features a lot of cheaper products in her posts because the products that she sees most of the bloggers raving about are more expensive where she lives. For example, a ¬†$5 [USD] lipstick will cost at least $10 in Barbados.
  • Another thing that makes the blog unique is that she is also focused on creating better lives for people. She says, ‚ÄúI cannot give them money to help them with their financial problems or a house for them and their children, but I can give them a little inspiration.‚ÄĚ

Tanya believes this can help her followers see the positives in their lives and that eventually everything will change for the better.

Before I close my post, I must thank Tanya for talking about me and my blog to her readers.  This is a great way to connect with people who share similar interests. I love her blog and I hope you do too. Please click her follow button and subscribe to her, to show her some love!

Blogger in focus: Natalie from Natzisstash

28 May

Natalie is a makeup and beauty blogger. She hosts a blog called Natzisstash.

About Natalie

She is¬†a¬†first year student at the National University of Singapore, and she is¬†studying in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She first got introduced to¬†makeup three years ago, when¬†she was part of the costuming team of¬†her high school‚Äôs drama club. From there,¬†she naturally had her intrest drawn towards pretty clothing. She says, “I don‚Äôt keep up with fashion trends though.”

She is hoping to get into blogshop modeling, and will be building up a portfolio with photographer friends over the next couple of months. Until then, she will be putting up photos of her shoots up on her blog, and more on her Facebook page.

Natalie’s passion for blogging was triggered¬†by her¬†friends who have been asking¬†her about makeup since¬†she started using it.¬†She also had friends asking her to go¬†along shopping when they needed to buy a new lipstick or some makeup.¬†She then¬†decided to compile¬†her tips and¬†ideas into blog posts. Also, despite owning so much makeup,¬†she rarely ever used it on herself. So¬†she decided to blog about my makeup looks as well, which was at least motivation to pull out the makeup.

What Natalie blogs about

She mostly¬†blogs about makeup, and very occasionally¬†about her¬†outfits, “When¬†I can get someone to take a photo of¬†my clothes for me!” she says. She also says, ”¬†I‚Äôm not the type to follow trends, but prefer to look for what suits a person, in makeup, clothes and colour.” Now, here is a sensible girl who shares similar interests with me.

Natalie says, “There are very few blogs out there that show how to do makeup for Asian styled eyes, which calls for a very different kind of makeup that Caucasian eyes have.”¬†She also says, “I‚Äôm glad to share what I know, and always happy to learn more.”

Natalie has done a lot of stage makeup so she is always on the lookout for products that are universally flattering (since budgets can only allow for so many of them!) So she reviews a diversity of products which suit various skin tones.

DIY: Bipasha Cat Eye – Amria’s recreation

27 May

I had recently requested Amria to recreate Bollywood bombshell, Bipasha Basu’s infamous cat eye makeup. She was kind enough to do so and I love what she put together! She has such beautiful eyes and the bold recreation suits her features.

This picture below, is what I shared with Amria, for inspiration.

Click here to see more photos of the look Amria recreated, and to visit her blog!

She is fantastic with her makeup creations. She makes all the looks she puts together seem so easy to create. If you haven’t already visited her blog, you should. That’s because she has a gallery of some great looks that you can take inspiration from if you are a makeup addict and love doing up your eyes.

Amria, thank you once again for recreating this pretty look for me. Can’t wait to see more of Haifa ūüėČ

Ashley Blushly1

Ashley hosts blushbeauty on wordpress. She is a beauty specialist and fitness guru. I love her blog because it hosts everything from fashion and DIY projects to health, beauty and fitness. Her posts are always perfect for the season and her readers!

About Ashley

She is¬†an aspiring Family Doctor and currently in college.¬†She is also a former UCA Cheerleader, and teaches yoga to a loving group of women on weekdays.¬†She lives¬†in Florida in¬†her small dorm with¬†her¬†roommate, Cydney, and¬†their two doggies, Rusty and Ryder.¬†All of¬†her life, she has been interested in all forms of beauty; whether it’s facial, hair, or body care.

What Ashley blogs about

Her blog hosts a large spectrum of topics. She has makeup tutorials, homemade facial care, hair tutorials, simple DIYs, weekly fashion trend updates, and even fitness fun!

Her¬†passion for blogging started when she was very young.¬†She was always on Tumblr and different blogging sites.¬†Her blogs on the other sites were either about fitness or just fashion. She never got to blog about¬†everything¬†she wanted to talk about, under one roof. So, when Ashley found this website,¬†she decided to try it and combine everything¬†she loves, into one blog. She says, “I wanted to share my passions¬†with other people.”¬†She also says, “My blog is very unique because I don’t really use over the top products and my stuff is very relatable to the average person.” “The products that I use are nearly all ¬†found at the drug store.” The only products that she uses that reach up to high price ranges are¬†palettes¬†of shadows, but¬†she always gives cheaper substitutes. Also,¬†her posts relate too the average person because they are simple, everyday things that anyone could do/try. She says, “My DIYs only consist of a few household items, yet I turn them into trendy pieces.”

This blog is worth following because it truly is a one-stop-shop. No one has time these days to Google every single thing they need. Instead they could just click on¬†Ashley’s blog and find out how to get killer abs while also learning how to get longer lashes.
