Get the look – Dark Prominence

5 May

I know a lot of women who shy away from the bold black eye look. But, with a little practice and the right colors, you can achieve a beautiful look that you can wear on a night out. Since a lot of Indian women are blessed with beautiful brown eyes, just a bit of eye kohl and mascara adds instant glamour. But if you want to amp your regular look, you could try something like this. This look is not only for the fairer skinned but also tanned and dusky beauties. Many Bollywood glamour queens are seen regularly sporting this look because it compliments Indian features and skin tones so well.

Two women who inspire me to wear bold eyes are Bipasha Basu and Amy Winehouse (may her soul rest in peace). I think these women rock black eye makeup and they are the first ones that come to mind when I look for dark and winged inspiration.

One of my go to looks includes thickly lined eyes with black eye shadow and liner. This either wings out or stays round at the outer corners of my eyes, depending on the look I want. The bold eyes, with blood red lips is one of my signature looks. I usually play around with the amount and the placement of pigments, to achieve different looks. Dark Prominence is the look that I am sharing in this post. Read on to learn how to achieve the look.

To get the look – Dark Prominence

Here is a step by step process on how I achieved the look. Below this, I have listed the products I used and where you can find them.

  • Start by prepping your face and eyes with a primer.
  • Apply foundation and conceal blemishes, under eye circles etc. with a concealer. Ensure the two products are the same color as your skin tone or a shade darker so they blend in and give you a seamless look.
  • Seal the makeup with a finishing powder and move to the eyes.
  • Line the inside of your eyes, top and bottom with kohl or kajal.
  • Line the outside of your eyes, top and bottom with the same liner.
  • Smudge the liner on the upper and lower lid with a smudge brush.
  • Pack a matte black eye shadow over the liner on the upper and lower lids.
  • Blend the shadow out towards the crease of your eye and wing it out with a pencil brush.
  • Use a neutral eye shadow that is close to your skin tone, to blend the crease area and ensure a smooth gradation of color.
  • Liner your lids with a black eye liner and wing it out if you want to.
  • Finish the eyes of with a few coats of mascara.
  • Shape your eyebrows with a little dark brown eye shadow if you need to.
  • Contour your cheekbones, the sides of your nose and under your chin with a matte bronzing powder to define your features.
  • Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks.
  • Apply a highlighter above the apples of your cheeks, on the bridge of your nose and on your cupid’s bow.
  • Line your lips and fill them in with a red lipstick that compliments your skin tone.
  • Finish the look with a spritz of Fix + to keep your makeup in place.
