DIY Natural and Organic Lip Balm

31 Jul

I have wanted to make my own lip balm for the longest time but I couldn’t get my hands on beeswax till I found the lovely Ekta’s shop, Green Junction on eBay. I am amazed by her customer service. She got my products to me in two days and she personally messaged me to let me know the tracking details. She is such a friendly person and I am glad I found her shop for some of my DIY needs. You should check her out if you are into DIY beauty projects. She sent me three lip balm recipes with my beeswax which was so thoughtful of her. Thanks Ekta! Here’s her Facebook page, if you would like to visit her and see what she sells.

So, here is what I used to make my own lip balm:

1.5 tsp of beeswax

1 tbsp of raw cocoa butter

1 tbsp of coconut oil

1 tsp of sweet almond oil

6 drops of vitamin E oil

3 drops of lavender oil

I grated the beeswax and added it to the cocoa butter, coconut oil, almond oil, and Vitamin E oil. I melted this over a double boiler and then added the lavender oil. You can skip the lavender oil if you don’t want to use it.

I then poured the balm into old makeup jars I had lying around my house.

I love my first attempt at a lip balm. It is a heavy duty moisturizer and I think it is great to keep those chapped and flaky looking lips at bay.

Let me know if you try making your own lip balm, or if you already have a recipe I can check out.

Till later my lovelies!

DIY Lip Scrubbies – Bubblegum & Chocolate

15 Jul

IMG_1388IMG_1403 For all you lipstick addicts, here are a couple of DIY lip scrubs that can help you exfoliate, and prep your puckers. I made two lip scrubs this weekend. I made one inspired by bubblegum, and one inspired by my ardent love for chocolate. These are cheaper than store bought lip exfoliators and come minus many of the chemicals you shouldn’t be applying on your lips. They also come packed with the gooness of moisturization and healing properties.

Here is what you need for the Bubblegum lip scrub

6 tbsp of caster sugar

3 drops of vitamin E oil

1 tsp of your favorite strawberry lip salve or balm

1 tsp of sweet almond oil

3 tsp of olive oil

2 drops of grapefruit extract

To make your scrub, mix all the wet ingredients together, and then add the caster sugar. Mix this well and put it into a small airtight container. You can label and decorate the container if you want to give the lip scrub to someone as a gift.

Here is what you need for the Chocolate lip scrub

6 tbsp of brown sugar

3 drops of vitamin E oil

1 tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp of coffe powder (instant or a chicory blend)

3 tbsp of coconut oil ( you could use olive oil instead of coconut)

To make your scrub, mix all the dry ingredients together, and then add the coconut and Vitamin E oil. Mix this well, and put it into a small airtight container. You can label and decorate the container if you want to give the lip scrub to someone as a gift.

To get smooth, hydrated lips

  • Scoop a little of your lipscrub into your palm.
  • Use your index finger to scrub this mixture onto your lips for 15 to 20 seconds. Then leave it on your lips and smack your lips for 5 to 10 seconds.
  • Wipe the scrub off with a wet tissue or wash it off with some water.
  • Pat your lips dry.
  • Immediately follow this process up with a smacking of lip balm or a drop of coconut oil.

And there you have it, perfectly hydrated lips that compliment lipstick, lipgloss and your smile 🙂

I hope you try to make these scrubbies. If you do, I’d like to know what you think of them.

Have you or do you make your own lip scrub? I’d like to know how you make yours. Leave me a comment if you already have a blog post on a lip scrub and I will check it out.

Till later my lovelies xo

DIY Anti Acne Toner

10 Jul

I recently learned that cumin, apart from tasting and smelling good, has skin benefits. I learned that cumin has antibacterial properties that can treat acne!

I also learned how to make my own toner with cumin, boiled in water. I made mine with a few drops of sweet basil oil. Sweet basil essential oil is said to enliven dull-looking skin, and improve skin tone. It is also an effective remedy for acne and eczema.

To make your own all-natural toner:

  • Bring the water to a boil
  • Add the cumin seeds and boil the water for two to three minutes
  • Let this mixture cool for twenty minutes (do not remove the cumin seeds till the mixture cools; it gives the toner more time to extract all the goodness from the cumin)
  • Once the mixture is cold, filter the cumin seeds out and save the liquid
  • Add 4 to 5 drops of sweet basil essential oil to the liquid
  • Mix this and put it into a spritzer. I used a dark, instead of a transparent spritz bottle, as it is said to increase shelf life and keep the godness of the oil inside.
  • Store your toner in the refidgerator. It stays for upto a month

Use this toner after you wash your face. Spritz some of your toner onto a cotton pad and apply it on your skin. The toner is working for me. It controls oil to a certain degree and I haven’t broken out since I started using the toner.

However, you must be warned that the product has an earthy basil fragrance, but this does not linger after the toner dries. It also has a yellowish brown color because of the cumin. This toner should be tested before you use it as some people can be allergic to cumin and sweet basil oil. Skip the sweet basil oil if you are pregnant or if you are a heart patient.

That being said, this toner is very good for acne prone skin. I am living proof that this works 🙂

Anushka’s bold n vivid lip statements

8 Jul

If there is one beauty, whose lipstick choices has been catching my attention, it has to be Bollywood’s Anushka Sharma.

This girl sure knows how to draw the attention to her lips and make them the statement of her avatar. I like how she usually keeps most of her makeup understated, and adds a pop of color onto her lips. She has inspired me to reach out for bolder and more vivid shades of lipstick, than I have done in the past.

Here are some of her looks that I adore

The Nature’s Co – Haul and Customer Service Experience

5 Jul

IMG_1330I recently visited The Nature’s Co. at Phoenix Mall in Bangalore and I was blown away by the customer service I received. And let me tell you, this is the first time I felt this satisfied with the customer service experience I walked away with.

The Nature’s Co. is a vegan, natural beauty care company. They are environment friendly and use packaging that contains only material such as Glass, PP, PETG, and acrylic which are user friendly, recyclable or biodegradable.

What the company says

My experience with The Nature’s Co. outlet at Phoenix Mall

When I spotted the store at Phoenix mall, my curiosity lured me into the shop. This is when the ever so helpful Peter asked me if this was my first time visiting the store. I said it was, and he expertly explained what the company was about and what the products were made of. He then asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. I mentioned to him that I was looking for a relaxing peppermint essential oil which is what brought me into the store. He asked me why I wanted the oil and I told him it was for my grandmother’s sore feet. He immediately showed me the peppermint foot soak as an alternative, and told me about the package deals they had. He then allowed me to inspect and have a look at the products. I fell in love with a few things that I decided I did not want to buy at the moment because I did not want to spend all my money. They were the coffee face scrub, the tangerine bath salts, the lemon shower gel and the whitening face cream. But I did buy the foot soak 🙂

Peter inspected my hair and noticed it was limp. He suggested I try the Watercress Shampoo and Evening Primrose conditioner for volume. I went with his suggestion (and I am happy I did). He also suggested a sunscreen and sandalwood face wash which I picked up. What surprised me, and turned my already good customer service experience better was the free spa service he offered me. I chose the foot spa and a girl working there explained that every customer was offered a free spa service if they bought something from the company. I went in for the foot spa! For the foot spa, he got the lady assisting me, to use the peppermint products I liked. After I finished with the foot spa, he asked me if I would like a free face spa. I agreed. He then used a clever, but good sales and customer experience tactic by getting the assistant to use the products I lusted after, on my skin! I loved all of them and he and I know, that I will be back soon to pick those products up! What’s more, when I collected my goodies from the sales counter, he gave me a few samples of the products I was lusting after, to try at home 😀 He definitely knows I am hooked onto those products!!

The final wow experience I had before leaving was how much they stress on being environmentally friendly. Instead of a paper bill, my bill was emailed to me 🙂

Thanks Peter, for making my first shopping experience with The Nature’s Co. so incredible. What made the experience great was your knowledge of customer needs. I will be back for more goodies soon.

When life gives you lemons…

4 Jul

… don’t grab Tequila and salt or make Lemonade, get busy getting pretty. Lemons, oh, how I love thee!

Yellow lemon

So my lovelies, A friend of mine, who wants to stay anonymous, decided to feature this post on Beauty Informer. Here is her take, in her own words, on why lemons are a beauty must have.

I generally stock a few lemons in my fridge not only to soothe sore throats and to a add citrus flavor to food, but also for my beauty regime. Lemons are good for your skin because they:

  • help in the reduction of free radicals that are the cause of aging and damaged skin
  •  act as a calorie free antioxidant when drunk with water

If you want to know more about free radicals and how to combat their effects, click on this image.

Here are four quick and friendly steps to get:

From oily to smooth and glowing skin:

•    Add a teaspoon of lemon juice, honey and one egg white to a bowl
•    Mix the contents to get a smooth and creamy texture
•    Apply it on the face with your fingertips, be generous with the application
•    Rinse with cold water after 20 minutes

From patchy and dry to soft and supple skin:

  • Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice with half a teaspoon of honey
  • Add a few drops of almond oil to the mix and stir well
  • Dip cotton balls into this mixture and dab all over your face
  • Rinse off with cold water after 15 minutes

From sensitive and acne prone to clear skin:

  • Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice to two teaspoons fuller’s earth
  • Add a few drops of rose water and sandalwood oil to make a paste
  • Apply the pack evenly all over your face and rinse with cold water after 10 minutes

From sun tanned to brighter and lighter skin:

  • Mix a teaspoon each of lemon juice and oats, to half a teaspoon of tomato pulp
  • Mix them well to form a paste
  • Apply this pack all over your face
  • Rinse with cold water after 15 minutes

Try these remedies and you will know why I think lemons are great for your skin.

Here’s another tip that will save you and your wallet a trip to the salon:

Create Blonde Highlights

  • Add 1/4 cup lemon juice to 3/4 cup water
  • Divide your hair into sections that you want to highlight
  • Rinse these sections of hair with the mixture

Sit  in the sun until your hair dries 🙂

I hope you try and like the remedies and tips I have shared. If you try them and they work for you, let me know.

Do you have a beauty regime that includes lemons? I’d love to hear all about it 🙂

About Francine

This 19-year old freelance makeup artist studied facial beauty, fashion and photography makeup. She also finished a course on Personal Beauty where she learned about the basics of beauty and makeup.

What Francine blogs about

She usually posts about makeup looks that she has created during photoshoots or when she practices certain looks. Aside from sharing photos, she also likes to give makeup tips, share her makeup hauls and post her wishlist on the latest makeup products she wants to buy. She says, “I only started a month ago and in my future posts I plan to write reviews as well.”

Her passion to blog was triggered by the need to post her pictures and create a portfolio. She says, “But then I felt that I wanted more from my blog. I wanted to write more about makeup and share everything I know about it.” She says she sometimes talks endlessly about makeup to her friends and family, so she realized her blog is actually a great outlet for her passion. She adds, “I think another factor that made me consider even creating a blog was because other makeup artists abroad, who write and talk about their makeup looks, inspired me too.”

She states that her blog is unique because everything in her blog is ‘her’. She says, “My blog contains my thoughts, my inspirations and my works. Everything in my blog is everything I want to share to everyone.”

She says that she showcases different people (different skin tones and different facial features) every time she creates looks because the reality is not everyone looks the same.
