Lush’s Happy Hippy shower gel review

12 Jun

happy hippy

When I got my rub rub rub scrub from Lush last month, my boyfriend also picked up a bottle of the Happy Hippy shower gel for us to try. Here is my review for this product.

Lush calls this shower gel a revitalizing grapefruit wash for gloomy mornings.

Ingredients used in Happy Hippy

Natural – Water (Aqua) , Fresh Pink Grapefruit Juice (Citrus grandis) , Grapefruit Water (Citrus grandis) , Grapefruit Oil (Citrus grandis) , Bergamot Oil (Citrus bergamia) , Frankincense Oil (Boswelia carterii) and Limonene Fragrance.

Safe synthetics – Sodium Laureth Sulfate , Sodium Cocoamphoacetate , Lauryl Betaine ,  Lactic Acid and Methylparaben.

What I like about Happy Hippy

  • It has a refreshing citrus fragrance. If you like citrus fragrances, you will like this product.
  • The scent is unisex and my boyfriend and I use it.
  • It feels right for summer because it cleanses thoroughly and it smell so fresh.
  • Contains more natural ingredients than most of the other shower gels I have used.
  • The product, like all Lush products, is not tested on animals.

What disappoints me about Happy Hippy

  • It is a tad expensive. The product retails at 380 INR for 100g and 680 for 250g.
  • The fragrance does not last as long as I would like it to.
  • It does not lather much and I love a lot of lather.

I am not sure if I will repurchase this shower gel. If you know of a shower gel that compares to or you think is better than this one, please let me know. I love to try new shower gels.

Lush Rub Rub Rub scrub review

11 Jun

lush rub rub rub

I stumbled upon a Lush counter at Phoenix Mall in Bangalore last week and came across this pretty blue salt scrub that I had to have. Here is my review of the product.

What Lush claims

They say that this shower scrub is not only for your skin, but also for your hair. Yes, it can also be used as a shampoo too.

Ingredients used in Lush’s Rub Rub Rub scrub

Lush claims they use natural ingredients and safe synthetics. Here is a list of the main ingredients listed on the container:

Natural – Fine Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride) , Fresh Organic Lemon Juice (Citrus limonum) , Water (Aqua) , Jasmine Flower Infusion (Jasminum officinale) , Mimosa Absolute (Mimosa tenuiflora) , Orange Flower Absolute (Citrus Aurantium amara) , Jasmine Absolute (Jasminum officinale) , Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum) , Lactic Acid and Limonene Fragrance.

Safe synthetics – FD&C Blue No. 1 , D&C Red 28, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate  and Lauryl Betaine.

What I like about the scrub

  • The fragrance – It has the fragrance of lemon and a mix of floral notes which make it fresh and invigorating. The fragrance stays on post your shower.
  • The texture – the salt granules are not harsh on the skin and when the product is in contact with water, it lathers a little. This makes it perfect for my summer showers. If you like stronger exfoliation, use this scrub on dry skin. Else, use it under the shower for milder exfoliation.
  • End result – I have smoother skin after I use this baby, and my skin continues to feel hydrated.
  • As a shampoo – I have limp hair, so the salt and lemon in this potion adds volume.
  • The packaging – The tub makes it easy to access the product and scoop out the right amount. Some people compalin about the packaging but I think this product is most suited to the tub it comes in because it allows you to get even the last salt particle out.
  • The color – Its bright blueness is a treat for the eyes.

Cons of this scrub

I haven’t found anything to complain about. My partner and I love this product and I wouldn’t hesitate from buying another tub.

I guess the only disadvantage some of us may feel is its price. The product retails at 350 INR for 130g. For the rates in USD, GBP, or your local currency, log onto

I hope this review is helpful. I love the scrub and think it is perfect for summer. Let me know if you use this product or if you plan on giving it a try.

Parachute Advansed Lotions – Deep Nourish Vs. Summer Fresh

4 May

While these body lotions have been in the market for a while, I only got to buy them recently. I have tried the two and want to share my opinion with anyone who wants to try them.

The Parachute Advansed Summer Fresh Body Lotion

What the product claims

It claims it has 100% natural moisturizers, with the goodness of coconut milk. It is said to be saturated with mint extracts that provide an instant cooling effect to rejuvenate you. The floral fragrance is said to keep you fresh all day.

The product also claims to give your skin double protection against the sun’s rays with its UV A & B base protection.

My opinion of the Summer Fresh lotion

  • Light and non greasy.
  • Comes in an easy to use package.
  • Has coconut milk, which is a good moisturizer.
  • Does not leave your skin feeling greasy after application.
  • Available in sizes – 40ml, 100ml and 250ml.
  • Easily available in any department store or at any beauty counter across India.

  • What turns me away from this lotion is its smell. It is disgusting, though some people beg to differ. A person I know recommended this one to me and mentioned that she liked the fragrance. I cannot stand it. I’d suggest getting a sniff of the whiff before you decide you want this one.
  • It has ingredients like parabens and aluminum starch octenyl succinate which some people like avoiding because of allergies and medical claims around these being harmful.
  • The product initially leaves a film of residue on the skin before drying up. This makes me wonder if it penetrates the skin or vaporizes into thin air. What’s acceptable is that my skin feels non greasy but I don’t really know how much this lotion actually does for my skin.
  • If you have dry skin or prefer creams that moisturize well, this lotion may not be the right choice for you.

250ml retails at 140 INR

The Parachute Advansed Deep Nourish Body Lotion

What the product claims

It claims to have 100% natural moisturizers, with the goodness of coconut milk. It claims to make skin delightfully soft and smooth in just 7 days. It says it has coconut milk, so it penetrates into your  skin and nourishes it from within. Coconut- based moisturizers are similar to the skin’s natural oils, they penetrate the skin and lock in moisture.

My opinion of the Deep Nourish lotion

  • Comes in an easy to use package.
  • Has coconut milk which is a good moisturizer.
  • Gives me the exact amount of moisture I need.
  • Does not let my skin dry out throughout the day. I only apply it once a day and don’t feel the need to apply more.
  • Has a pleasant fragrance unlike its partner – summer fresh. It has a mild coconut milky fragrance that I dig. If you aren’t sure about the fragrance, I suggest smelling this one before you buy it.
  • Not as thick as usual heavy duty moisturizers, in consistency. And, it moisturizes better than some drug store brands that I have tried.
  • Available in sizes – 40ml, 100ml and 250ml.
  • Easily available in any department store or at any beauty counter across India.

  • I don’t have anything to complain about apart from the initial greasiness that my skin has to deal with. However, within a couple of hours the product gets absorbed and my skin feels soft and smooth.
  • If you have oily skin or prefer creams that are less oily, this lotion may not be the right choice for you.

250ml retails at 115 INR

Verdict – Deep Nourish or Summer Fresh for me?

Ribbet collage

I like the deep nourish lotion and I am keeping it. It works for me and my skin which is partially dry. I will definitely get me more of this one.

The summer fresh however, is sadly not going to get a second glance from me – its smell being the biggest reason.

I hope you find this review useful and I hope it helps you make the right choice when picking out one of these lotions for yourself.

If you have tried these lotions and want to share your experience, I would be happy to know what your views are.

Maybelline’s Fatal Red Lipstick Review and Offers

26 Apr

Capture fatal redFatal Red is from Maybelline’s Color Sensational range of lipsticks. They have 68 shades to choose from but a couple of girls I know swear by Fatal Red. This lipstick is my friend, Ushus’ favorite Red. She loves red lipsticks, and for her to call this her favorite, sets the bar high enough for me to have her review it for anyone interested in a bold red lipstick that’s pocket friendly and worthy of being slapped on any pair of lips. I have included online offers and where you can get this lipstick at a discount, after the review.

Ushus’ opinion about Maybelline’s Fatal Red

This is my favorite red lipstick as I love blood red lips. The color is bold and I never feel short of a diva when I wear it. This is because the color goes so well with my dusky complexion. I have a warm undertone and this shade looks great on me, but I know it will suit cooler skin tones too.

Pros of Maybelline’s Fatal Red

  • Suits any Indian skin tone (quite a few of my friends and I have tried this lipstick and you should trust our opinion on this one)
  • Very pigmented
  • Smooth texture and creamy finish
  • Non shimmery (reds with shimmer are not my favourites)
  • Not expensive. This lipstick retails for 350 INR!
  • Does not stubbornly stain the lips

Cons of Maybelline’s Fatal Red

Transfers easily and may need a couple of re-applications during the day.

Would Ushus recommend buying Maybelline’s Fatal Red?

Of course! For that price, the payoff in terms of quality and pigmentation is superb. If you like red lipsticks and like trying different shades and types, this one is definitely worth a try.

Where you can buy Maybelline Fatal Red

MAC FIX+ Review and DIY Option

25 Apr

Over the past couple of years, I have heard so much about MAC’s Fix+, that I decided I needed a bottle. I bought me one a couple of weeks ago and decided to share my findings and opinion.

This setting spray is supposed to be sprayed onto your face after you apply makeup. It is created to keep makeup in place for hours.

MAC’s description of FIX+

An aqua-spritz of vitamin and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. Adds radiance, finishes makeup. Spray it on. Skin drinks it up!

The box reads: A soothing moisture mist that refreshes the skin and finishes makeup. Hold bottle 12” away from face and spray evenly. Use before or after makeup.

Fix+ contains: Water, Glycerin, Cucumber and Chamomile extracts, to name a few. These ingredients help hydrate and moisturize skin.

What I like about MAC FIX+

  • It definitely keeps makeup looking fresh throughout the day.
  • I spritz on some after my makeup routine and my makeup stays vibrant and in place till the end of my work day. I’m talking about 10 to 11 hours ladies!
  • The bottle comes with a nozzle that has a lock system. This makes it easy to carry the product around without accidentally spraying it all over the place.
  • I always wear a powder compact and after a spray of this product, my makeup looks smoother and naturally textured. The powder appearance is diminished.
  • I learnt that wetting my eyeshadow applicator brush with the product and then swiping baked eyeshadow onto my eyes, gives the color a more vivid appearance.
  • Some YouTube MUGs use a spritz on their brushes before packing on loose pigments onto their eyes.
  • It has a light, pleasant fragrance that wakes my skin and senses up when I spray it.
  • I have never tried it on my skin before makeup application so I can’t comment on how that works.

What doesn’t stand out for me about MAC FIX+

  • I sometimes have it leaving splotches on my face if I forget to hold it far enough (12” is an uncomfortable distance away from your face). The splotches dry up in 30 seconds though, and don’t look blotchy, so that works for me.
  • The price. The product retails at 1150 INR and 21 USD.
  • May not be the best option for people with oily skin as it is known to work those oil glands. Someone did mention using it before priming and not after,  to avoid breaking out. I suggest you check with the sales assistant at MAC if you plan on getting yourself one of these, and if you have oily skin.

 My overall opinion

I will continue to use this product as it keeps my makeup looking fresh for hours on end. However, I am willing to try cheaper alternatives that are just as good.

I also plan on trying beautyandblog’s DIY fix spray. She uses glycerin, rose water and distilled water to make her own fixing spray. It sounds promising and you can see how she makes it, here –

If you do try either Fix+ or the DIY spray, let me know how you find it.

Chambor Rouge Plump 748 Lipstick Review

24 Apr

Chambor has 24 shades available in the Rouge Plump range of lipsticks, but you may not find all shades available at your local store.

The lipstick being reviewed belongs to my friend, Ushus. She shared her views for the product as she recently bought it and is quite impressed by it. The swatches and pictures are of the lipstick on her lips, to show you how it compliments anyone with her skin tone.

As the name suggests, this lipstick has a plumper in it. Chambor claims that the lipstick amplifies lips by 25%. They also pride themselves and claim that the lipstick is not tested on animals, has no animal ingredients and includes SPF15 that protects against UVA and UVB rays.

Ushus’ opinion about the Chambor Rouge Plump Lipstick 748

It is the perfect pink for someone with dusky skin. I have a warm yellow undertone and the lipstick pops with my complexion.

When I wear the 773, I don’t feel the need to wear any other makeup as my lips steal the show. I would describe the shade as electric pink. Just one swipe is all I need as this lipstick is quite pigmented. It definitely plumps my lips as they seem fuller after the tingling sensation dies down post application.

Pros of the Chambor Rouge Plump 748

  • Very moisturizing
  • Very pigmented
  • Smooth texture and creamy finish
  • Stays on for about three hours depending on what I eat
  • Does not dry my lips out
  • Does not stain lips

Cons of the Chambor Rouge Plump 748

Some may find the lipstick a tad expensive. It retails at 745 INR.

Would Ushus recommend buying the Chambor Rouge Plump 748?

Yes, definitely. She has no complaints about the lipstick. She loves the feel and colour of the product and recommends trying the shade, if you love pink lispsticks.

The Body Shop Lipscuff Review

19 Apr

I love wearing lipsticks and a problem I have had to deal with for quite long is dry, flaky lips. This can be a nightmare, especially when you are all made up and ready to head out the door but you can’t, because of the hideousness of your lipstick clumped under flaked skin! Lipbalms sometimes just don’t do the trick for me when my lips are at the flaky stage.

I visited The Body Shop some time back and came across Lipscuff. It is a lip exfoliator that comes in a lipstick casing.

The BS description of Lipscuff

A moisturizing lip care product that gently exfoliates the lips to help remove dead skin cells, leaving the lips feeling smooth, soft and conditioned.

How I use the product

I usually apply a generous amount on my lips and smack them together for about 10 seconds. I then leave it on for half a minute before smacking my lips again for a few seconds after which, I wipe the product away with a tissue and immediately moisturize my lips to avoid drying.

Pros of Lipscuff

  • The casing makes for easy application
  • The fragrance and feel. The product has a minty fragrance and feel. It tingles on my lips and makes them feel fresh
  • It definitely makes my lips more prepped for lipsticks; especially the matte variety

 Cons of Lipscuff

  • Its price. It retails at INR 495 which is a bit pricey for a lip exfoliator
  • The quantity. For the price you pay, you don’t get only 2.5 grams of product.

 What I think

While I like it and it does the job, it comes at a price that I don’t think is worth the amount of product you get.

Would I recommend The Body Shop Lipscuff?

No, and I won’t be buying another one. I am still on the lookout for a good lip exfoliator that is worth its money.
