Summer must have – Clean & Clear oil control film

11 May

If there is one thing I dislike about summertime, it is the way my skin tends to get oily in hot, humid weather. This can make me breakout if I am not too careful. To manage this dilemma, the one product that I always carry in my handbag is the oil control films from Clean & Clear.

What Clean & Clear claims about their oil control film

CLEAN & CLEAR® oil control film instantly soaks up excess oil and removes shine from your face, without smudging makeup or leaving behind powder. Softer than paper, these silky sheets can be used easily around your nose and other areas of your face. Leaves your skin feeling refreshed, oil-free and shine-free.

The Clean & Clear oil control film comes in a pouch that can be flipped open. The only thing I would prefer is if the packaging made it easier to pull just one wipe out. As you can see in the picture, the sheets need to be pulled out and I sometimes end up pulling out more than I need. But, that won’t make me stop buying this baby!

Why I love Clean & Clear oil control film

  • The product is what it claims; an oil controller. It really does soak up excess oil that is produced by the skin and leaves you with a radiant and clean glow after.
  • It leaves my skin oil and shine free.
  • It does not irritate my skin. The sheets are soft and they do not bruise my skin when I wipe my face.
  • It only removes the excess oil from my face, not my makeup!
  • Inexpensive and easy to carry around. I keep one at work as I feel the need to blot my face at least once during the day.
  • The fragrance. Mine has a berry fragrance to it. (It says it is ‘limited edition’ on the pouch, so I don’t think this one will be at counters for long). But, the original film is always available. It is in blue and has a mild fragrance to it.

Price and availability

I have only seen this product at Health and Glow outlets so I am unsure of other places that sell it.

It retails at 99 INR

If you have oily skin, this is definitely worth trying.

Eye Love – Favourite peeper products

8 May

Pretty eyes – be it mascara, kohl or an eye soother; some of us have our favorites. So, here I am, sharing some of my favorite eye products that I have been using, and have come to love over the years.

1. Clinique “Take the day off” makeup remover

This is the best makeup remover I have ever come across. It is gentle on the skin, because of its oil base. Just a little of this product on a cotton ball, is all you need to wipe the day’s grime away. It comes in a bottle that has a lock cap and I love this because it avoids spillage if you have to carry the bottle anywhere. Additionally, it does not have a fragrance and it does not leave your skin with an uncomfortable after feeling. I use this product on my eyes too because it is gentle and causes no irritation.

Price – This product retails at 1400 INR and 18 USD for 125ml

Available at all Clinique outlets in India and abroad.

2. Revlon eyeliner pencil – Black

This is my favorite eye liner. I use a lot of eye liner on a daily basis and this one is my go-to eyeliner. It is very pigmented and it gives me the perfect shade of black that I like. It does not irritate my water line or eyes, and it does not have too much of an oil base, so it does not smudge too much. Neither is this liner too dry, which makes it perfect for my peeps. I also like this pencil because it is easy to blend and has a matte finish. What I also like is that it is sharpenable. I am not too fond of the twisty eyeliners as they get over quickly and are so delicate. But this one lasts for at least three to four months. For its pigmentation, smooth texture and evenness, I have never substituted this eye liner with another, over the last six years.

Price – This product retails at 265 INR and 6 USD for 1.15 gms

Available at all beauty outlets across India and drugstores worldwide

3. The Body Shop – Nutriganics smoothing eye cream

I like this under eye cream because it has natural ingredients like organic babassu oil which is claimed to smoothen skin. It also has organic red grape, plantain and elderflower that claim to help improve skin tone and texture. It’s light and non-irritating. It is absorbed by the skin well and it does not clog pores. It comes with an easy to use pump that dispenses the right amount of product. It has particles that brighten my eyes and I like that effect.

Price – This product retails at 1090 INR and 16 to 21 USD for 50ml

Available at The Body Shop outlets worldwide

4. Nyx Jumbo eye pencils

I personally love these eye pencils and use them as a base under my eye shadows. My favorite is Milk which is the white pencil. When I use this pencil under my eye shadow, it makes the pigments pop and look more vivid. These pencils are available in many colors and are worth a try.

Price – This product retails at 425 INR and  7 USD

Available online at Flipkart and Healthkart in India. Available on ebay, internationally.

5. The Body Shop Aqua eye mask

I got one of this from a friend and I love the gel mask because it relaxes and calms my eyes. I usually keep it in my cooler before I put it over my eyes. It reduces redness and puffiness quite effectively. I like this mask because the material it is made of is smooth and not rough or hard like some other eye masks.

Price – This product retails at 345 INR and 7 to 10 USD

Available at The Body Shop outlets worldwide

6. Maybelline Lasting Drama gel eye liner

I love this gel eyeliner because it is both, smudge and water proof. It stays on the whole day, without smudging. It is very easy to apply the liner because of its slightly creamy texture. The product comes with an eye liner brush that works perfectly to create anything from a defined cat eye to precise winged effects.

Price – This product retails at 410 INR and 9 to 10 USD

Available at all beauty outlets that sell Maybelline products across India and in drug stores worldwide.

The product is also available online, in India, at violetbag and flipkart.

7. L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes mascara

I must say that this mascara is my favorite. It does all the right things for my eyelashes. It makes them look thicker and longer without clumping them. I usually use this mascara over my Benefit one and the two work perfectly together. After a few coats of this baby, I have the effect of falsies without the burden of wearing false eyelashes.

Price – This product retails at 700 INR and 9 USD

Available at all beauty outlets that sell L’Oreal products across India and in drug stores worldwide.

The product is also available online, in India, at myntra.

8. Benefit ‘They’re Real’ mascara

My boyfriend got me this mascara from Sephora and I have been in love with it from the day I got it. When I want a natural look, this mascara enhances the look of my lashes, without clumping. It separates my lashes too, and gives them a very natural look. When I want more glamorous lashes, I apply a couple of coats of the L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes mascara over this one and I have natural volume and length.

Price – This product retails at 1460 INR and 23 USD

Available at Sephora counters worldwide. (Sephora has one store in India, located in Delhi)

So, these are my favorite eye products at the moment. Do you have any you swear by?

MAC Amplified Crème Lipstick in Up the Amp

29 Apr

The Impassioned lipstick is from the Amplified Crème range of lipsticks by MAC. MAC describes the shade as ‘Lavender Violet’ and it is a part of their permanent range. This is a lipstick that I find worth my pennies.

Swatched indoors, with natural light

I absolutely love the amplified crème range of lipsticks from MAC because of their texture and pigmentation. That’s why I got myself a few 🙂

But, Up the Amp is one of my favorites as it compliments my skin tone. Well,  I think it is a shade that would complement any skin tone, as long as you are confident enough to carry it off. I have owned a few lavender and purple lipsticks, but Up the Amp tops my list.

Why I love Up the Amp

  • It is highly pigmented.
  • It can be swiped on with a light hand for a subtle hint of color, or with a heavy hand for a more vibrant hue.
  • Though it is matte, it is not as drying as mattes usually are.
  • The lipstick has a staying power of 4 to 5 hours on my lips.
  • It fades evenly.

Up the Amp is priced at 990 INR and 15 USD.

Have you tried Up the Amp? If you have, let me know your opinion about this bold shade from MAC.

Lotus Herbals Rosetone – Skin Toner

28 Apr

I recently picked up the Lotus Herbals Rosetone Rose Petals Skin Toner.

Many people argue about whether toners are necessary or just an unwanted expense. But, the reason for me writing about this particular toner is because of the ingredients in it. The toner has Rose , Tulsi and Aloe Vera. These ingredients have antiseptic, revitalizing and moisturizing properties which are good for your skin. The toner does not contain alcohol and that’s what drew me to it.

This toner moisturizes the skin. So, I skip the moisturizer at times, unless I need a sunscreen. Then I skip this toner. If you have very oily skin, this toner may not suit you. But it works well for dry skin. I personally have combination skin and that’s why I skip the moisturizer when I use Rosetone.

What I like about Rosetone and why I use it

  • It does not make your skin feel taut and stretched after application, but moisturizes skin
  • It does not have alcohol and does not sting your face, neither does it dry your face out like alcohol toners normally do
  • It helps maintain the skin’s pH balance
  • The fragrance is pleasant and wakes my skin up
  • The pump dispenser makes it easier to control the amount of the product you want to use
  • It rejuvenates my skin on a hot day. I usually carry it in my bag and spritz a little onto my skin and wipe away the day’s grease if I feel sweaty and greasy
  • It is affordable at 195 INR
  • It is easily available
  • The clear packaging lets me know how much product I have. I will know when it is time for a replacement

What you should know if you plan on buying Rosetone

  • If you have oily skin, you may not want to use this product as it moisturizes and can leave your skin feeling oily
  • Some combination skin types may not appreciate the moisturizing properties in this product, in summer; especially if you can’t do without a moisturizer. I skip the moisturizer when I use this.

How to use Rosetone

After cleansing, wipe face and neck with a cotton pad moistened with Rosetone.

Where you can buy Rosetone

This product is available at Health and Glow and any beauty outlet that sells Lotus Herbal products across India. You can also buy it online from these stores:

Other online stores like goodlife and healthkart have the toner, but their prices are higher (215 rupees).

If you try this toner, let me know what you think about it.

MAC Amplified Crème Lipstick in Impassioned

23 Apr

The Impassioned lipstick is from the Amplified Crème range of lipsticks by MAC. Mac describes the shade as ‘Amped up Fuschia’. I would describe it as the most charming pink shade with a subtle coral undertone.

Swatched under natural light

This lipstick looks great on me, but I think it is a shade that would complement any skin tone. My friend, who has a slightly dusky skin tone tried the lipstick on, and it looked fantastic on her too.

Why I love Impassioned

I love pink lipsticks, but I must say there is no pink shade I’ve come across, that compliments my features as much as Impassioned does. Apart from this, the lipstick is highly pigmented. And though it is matte, it is not as drying as mattes usually are. The lipstick has a staying power of 4 to 5 hours on my lips, which I think is amazing. And, when it fades, it does so evenly. I sometimes don’t apply a second layer and when I get home from work, I still have a pink hue on my lips, which I love.

The only downer is that the lipstick does not keep my lips moisturized for long. But I love it for the shade and pigmentation and to deal with the drying issue, I usually dab on a little lip salve when there is a need. Problem solved 🙂

This is one MAC lipstick I liked investing in. It retails at 990 INR and 15 USD.

Has anyone found a drugstore dupe that you would suggest? I haven’t come across one as yet.

Makeup options for every makeup addict!

19 Apr

It is sometimes saddening that most makeup brands are not readily available at makeup counters in India. But the reason for me saying ‘sometimes sad’ is because most brands are now available to us Indians, and can be delivered to our doorsteps. This has been made possible by the wonderful array of online stores that now offer international shipping!

I have had a lot of my friends in India asking me where I get my makeup and tools from. So, I decided to share some information on the products that I have shopped for, online. The products that I am going to discuss are ones that I am happy to have spent my money on!

I know a lot of Indians are quite hesitant when it comes to shopping online. We worry about authenticity and quality. However, the stores we are about to discuss have many happy buyer reviews and have been proven safe to shop from.

Now, let’s start with my list…

Coastal Scents

You can find their products at

Eye shadow palettes

If you are looking for eye shadow palettes and have a limited budget, Coastal Scents has two palettes I love:

1. The 88 Warm Palette

I was exhilarated when I got this palette. It has, as you can see in the image below, an array of warm colours that would suit any skin tone. I love this palette as it has given me the chance to play around with different smoky eye and natural looks.

I think this palette is worth every penny. It costs 24.95 USD which roughly converts into 1380.00 INR. If you are lucky you may catch the palette on sale for just 12.95 USD which is roughly around 712 INR!

2. The 88 Original Palette

I absolutely love this palette. It has a mix of matte and shimmery colours. The colours are highly pigmented and are great for colourful light, vivid and bold looks.

This palette costs only 18.95 USD which roughly converts into 1040 INR. That is just as much as one MAC eye shadow would cost you!

If you are lucky you may catch the palette on sale for just 10.95 USD which is roughly around 600 INR!

Eye makeup brushes

Apart from MAC, I have found it very difficult to find myself some good makeup brushes in India that are affordable. So, I ordered quite a few of my brushes off Coastal Scents. The prices sometimes seem too good to be true! There are some brushes from the lot that I bought that I absolutely love and use almost every day. These are the only ones I am going to share my views on.

black pointed crease

Classic blender pointed natural

This brush is perfect for defining the crease of your eye. It costs only 2.95 USD which is roughly around 162 INR. I know, great price, isn’t it? It is a great brush to add to your collection.

Classic mini detail brush

I love this brush! For just 2.49 USD, which is roughly around 137 INR, I think this the perfect brush when trying to get intricate details into your look. It also doubles up as an eyebrow filler brush.

While these are just a few products I reviewed, they have a range of palettes that are easy on the pocket and worth every dime. Coastal Scents ships worldwide and offers free shipping to people living in Continental USA if your orders are above 50 USD

2. Cherry Culture

You can find their products at

NYX Cosmetics is a beauty brand that is not always available in India. But they have some great products. After looking around I noticed that Cherryculture offers a good price range for these products. I bought some NYX goodies from this store and I am happy with almost everything.

Mentioned below are some of the products I would suggest from NYX.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils

jumb penc

This is my favourite NYX product.

These pencils act as great bases for eye makeup. They are available in many colours and cost only 4.50 USD which is roughly around 250 INR.
My personal favourite jumbo pencils are  Milk, Dark Brown, Black Bean and Purple.

You can sometimes find these pencils available in India at but the range of shades may not always be available and each pencil is priced at 425 INR.

NYX Powder Blushes

nyx bl

My personal favourite is Peach which is a beautiful soft pink shade.

These blushes come in great colours for just 5.95 USD which is roughly around 330 INR. You may find the blushes at as well for 450 to 650 INR

NYX Megashine Lipglosses

These lipglosses are fantastic and I haven’t found a drugstore brand to compare to the feel of these glosses on my lips. They come in a variety of shades and colours and can be worn on their own or over a lipstick.
They are available for 5.50 USD which roughly calculates to 300.00 INR. You may find the glossies at as well for 318 to 475 INR
My personal favourites are Beige, Smokey Look, and Miami Babe.

Nyx has a lot of other products like the lip creams that are being ranted about (on my list). The brand is slowly becoming available in India and a birdie told me that Sephora, which has opened in Delhi, has Nyx products available too!

Other products you may love shopping for on cherryculture are the Ardell falsies, the infamous beauty blender, and brands like Girlactik, Model in a bottle, Palladio, and L.A Colors.

3. StrawberryNET

You can find them at

This website offers you high-end brands at discounted rates. It is a great online store for skincare, makeup, hair products and fragrances.

They have regular discounts on already discounted products and what’s more … Shipping is FREE internationally!!!

You may not always find everything you need from a brand but they have some great offers and discounts on all major brands. To name a few makeup brands – NARS, MAC, Stila, TooFaced, Becca, Benefit, Scott Barnes, Chanel, Shu Uemura, The Balm and many more…

They also have some great skin care brands like H2O+, Dermaceuticals, Clarins, Clinique etc.

The Body Shop’s Facial Buffer

19 Apr

I have combination skin and parts of my face – like my nose, chin and forehead tend to get dry and flaky. I am not particularly fond of face scrubs because some of them are quite harsh on my skin.

So, when I visited The Body Shop, I was curious about the facial buffer they had sitting on their shelf. I decided to give it a try and I haven’t regretted buying it.

Who will enjoy using this buffer?

  • Anyone who avoids face scrubs because of sensitive skin
  • Anyone looking for a cost effective buffer. The BS buffer is priced at INR 145.00 which I think is a steal

How does it work for me?

I use the buffer every night. I dampen it and add my facial foam to it. I then gently exfoliate the day’s grime, before I slather on my night cream. I avoid using it right below my eyes as the skin there is very sensitive.

This buffer works for me because, unlike facial scrubs, it allows me to control the pressure I want to exfoliate my skin with. It also leaves my skin feeling soft and supple and most of all, it keeps flakiness at bay!

Would I recommend buying The Body Shop facial buffer?

Hell, yeah! I am on my second one now 🙂
