My October Vellvette Bag

5 Nov

IMG_1471

This is my first Vellvette bag and I while I eagerly awaited its arrival in October, it only got to me in November. But, I guess that was because I only registered with them mid-month. Anyways ladies, here’s what I think of my very first Vellvette bag.

October’s Vellvette bag is called the K.I.S.S edition (keep it simple and sexy).

What I received

IMG_1472

The BeautyUK Eye Shadow Palette – Naked

IMG_1476

I absolutely love this addition to my bag. I received the full size palette which costs about INR 603. It has 10 neutral eye shadows and they are compact enough to carry around in my bag every day. The colors seem quite pigmented and I know I can create many smokey looks with this palette. So thank you Vellvette for adding this to my bag xoIMG_1477

H2O Oasis Ultra Hydrator

IMG_1474

I received an 8ml sample of this moisturizer. A full size 50ml container costs INR 2400. This moisturizer claims to hydrate and illuminate dull, depleted skin. It also claims to have hydrating marine botanicals that provide instant hydration to visiblyplump and smotthen dry skin. In addion to this, it claims to protect against aging.
I am going to try this product and see if it stands up to its claims. I am not sure if the quantity I received will show me results though. Let’s wait and watch.

Vantiv Energizing Shampoo + Cool Water Shower Gel

IMG_1478

I received two ful sized potions of these two products. Frankly I did not fancy receiving these products as they are affordable and something I wouldn’t pick off a beauty shelf. I am very careful about what goes onto my scalp and this shampoo is packed with chemicals. So I guess I’ll have to find an alternative use for the shampoo. I may just use it to wash my makeup brushes.

The shower gel on theother hand, I may just try. It has quite a strong fragrance that I usually don’t like, but it claims to have Aloe Vera, so I mightas wellgive it a go. But I know, I won’t be picking up these two products ever.

What I liked about the October Vellvette Bag

  • I love the blue pouch my products came in. The size is perfect and it is now going to travel with me in my handbag with my makeup neccessities.
  • I like the fact that Velvette has included some full sized products for us to sample and I consider my subscription well worth it.
  • I love the eye palette as I am a makeup buff and the colors are perfect for the season.

What put me off this month’s Vellvette bag

  • The bag only got to me in November and it had a coupon to invite a friend. I gave the coupon to a friend who realizedthat it expired on the 31st of October. What an embarassment! Attention to little deatils should be the mantra for customer delight. (I have to mention the Vellvette crew noticed this complaint and wrote back to me with a new coupon – thanks you guys!)
  • The products don’t have visible manufactured dates whichmakes me weary of whether they have expired or are about to expire.
  • The shower gel was damaged and half the product was splattered in the packaging. Yuck! Here’s what it looked like when I opened it.

IMG_1479

All in all, I have mixed feelings about the October bag and only hope the bag I get in November makes up for lost feelings of joy.

Please brighten my bag for November, Vellvette!!

DIY Relaxing Ginger Winter Foot Soak

28 Oct

IMG_1339

With winter here, I pay special attention to my feet as I tend to get dry around the heels. I love to soak my feet in warm water once a week, and to make the experience more relaxing, I made a foot soak with the goodness of ginger, ylang ylang and tangerine.

Ginger, when used as a foot soak, is said to warm and relax your muscles, thus releiving stress and aches.

IMG_1331
To make youself this footsoak, combine:

  • half a cup of sea salt
  • half a cup of Epsom salts
  • 2 tbsp of ginger powder
  • 5 drops of tangerine essential oil
  • 3 drops of ylang ylang essential oil

IMG_1333 IMG_1337Transfer the soak into an airtight container to elongate its shelf life. And there you have it! A great foot soak that you can use for your beauty and relaxation regimes this winter. To use the soak, just add a couple of spoonfuls to some warm warm water, and soak those tired feet for ten to fifteen minutes.

IMG_1338

This foot soak also doubles up as a great gift for Christmas.

Let me know if you try this one and I’d love to try any similar soaks you have made/used.

Enjoy the rest of your week my lovlies! Till later xoxo

DIY Natural Body Butter

28 Sep

IMG_1429

Hello my lovelies. Here is a body butter I recently made thanks to Ekta, from Green Junction who kindly arranged some Shea butter for me. Ekta, you are the best!

So let’s jump straight into how I made my butter (that I love so much)!

What I used

300gms of cocoa butter

50 gms of shea butter

2tbsp of coconut oil

2tbsp of sweet almond oil

2tbsp of vitamin E oil

1tsp of honey

8gms of beeswax

A few drops of sandalwood, lavender and geranium essential oil

How I made the potion

In a double boiler, I melted the shea and cocoa butter, with the beeswax.

IMG_1424

I then added the coconut, sweet almond and Vitamin E oils to the melted butters. I mixed them well and added the honey and essential oils.

IMG_1425

After that, I let the mixture cool down and partly solidify, and I then beat it with a blender till it was a thick, smooth, buttery, consistency.

IMG_1426 IMG_1427

I finally bottled it in a sterile glass jar.

IMG_1428

And voilà, I now have myself a jar of natural body butter.

I find this butter very moisturising and it gets absorbed into the skin in seconds.

If any of you ladies try this recipe, please leave me a comment letting me know how it turns out. And, if you have a DIY similar to this one, please share it with me. You know I love DIYs 🙂

Oh, and before I leave, I thought I’d ask you to check Ekta’s store on Ebay. She has some cool stuff in her store at the moment, like shea and mango body butter. She also has salts and clays that you may like!

Enjoy the rest of the week beauties.

Till later xo

Beauty through the decades with Ally – The 80s!

31 Aug

Capture

Holy cow! I actually have a picture up for this post! YES! I finally found my camera and cord and had some free time to finally participate again!

Today my lovely guest blogger is Patricia from Beauty Informer! We are rocking some 80’s looks for you guys today! Let’s get started with Patricia’s look.
IMG_1421
I kept true to the vibrancy of the 80’s and used my 88 color palette from Coastal Scents to achieve the look. I used a blue for my lids and pink in the crease area. I then used an orange shade above the pink and highlighted my brow area with yellow. I used a bit of the blue, orange and yellow  under my eyes too. The colors unfortunately, have been washed out by my camera.
For my face, I used some primer, a foundation, and some blush and contour powder. I followed this up with a light coat of mascara and pink lipstick and liner. Notice my side ponytail with the blue band to match the eye shadow 😉
Ally says, “I love Patricia’s look! I love that it is still completely wearable!
Thank you Ally xo
DSCN0456
For her look, Ally says, “I was definitely excited to do an 80’s look because, well, I love bright colors! I really went for a bright obnoxious look. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea and may not be “wearable” for everyone lol. I consider it wearable, and I actually do normally wear my eye looks like this. My mom always says I should have been born in the 80’s!
I used an e.l.f. brightening eye quad in Punk Funk and a Rimmel London ScandalEYES eyeshadow pencil in witness white to achieve this look. I took the scandalEYES eyeshadow pencil and applied it all over my lid and lined my lower lash line with it. I applied the pink shadow from the quad all over the lids and the purple in the crease. I lined my lower lash line with the blue shadow in the quad. It is a very quick and easy look!

Ally adds, “Hope everyone enjoyed this beauty through the decades post!”
Next week she’ll be rocking the 90’s with another guest blogger! So, please stop by All Things Ally and check her out. I hope you like her and her blog as much as I do.
Thanks for having me be a part of the ‘Beauty through the decades’ series Ally. I had so much fun working on this, with you.

DIY Natural and Organic Lip Balm

31 Jul

IMG_1405

I have wanted to make my own lip balm for the longest time but I couldn’t get my hands on beeswax till I found the lovely Ekta’s shop, Green Junction on eBay. I am amazed by her customer service. She got my products to me in two days and she personally messaged me to let me know the tracking details. She is such a friendly person and I am glad I found her shop for some of my DIY needs. You should check her out if you are into DIY beauty projects. She sent me three lip balm recipes with my beeswax which was so thoughtful of her. Thanks Ekta! Here’s her Facebook page, if you would like to visit her and see what she sells.

So, here is what I used to make my own lip balm:

1.5 tsp of beeswax

1 tbsp of raw cocoa butter

1 tbsp of coconut oil

1 tsp of sweet almond oil

6 drops of vitamin E oil

3 drops of lavender oil

I grated the beeswax and added it to the cocoa butter, coconut oil, almond oil, and Vitamin E oil. I melted this over a double boiler and then added the lavender oil. You can skip the lavender oil if you don’t want to use it.

IMG_1408

I then poured the balm into old makeup jars I had lying around my house.

IMG_1406

I love my first attempt at a lip balm. It is a heavy duty moisturizer and I think it is great to keep those chapped and flaky looking lips at bay.

Let me know if you try making your own lip balm, or if you already have a recipe I can check out.

Till later my lovelies!
